should i be concerned?
we are car shopping. we want something unique, but there aren't a lot of options for people like us. we want something sporty, family-ish, and fun. but a classic of good quality. we like convertibles, but we are too practical for that right now and after driving a suburban for five years, i want something big. we have been surprising ourselves with what we are willing to get this time around. we were even considering a hummer, but i wanted it in teal, and we couldn't find that. so, after much thought, i think we have decided on this:

http://www.chrysler.com/en/

it scares me. it really does. i said i would never get one of these mom cars. but it has a table! they totally sold me on the table. and it comes in teal.

fyi. i also got my haircut (a chin length bob) and i was wearing jeans yesterday that buttoned close to my belly button. you see, the van isn't all i'm worried about.

Your post gave me a giggle this morning. Believe it or not I had been trying to get Hubby to trade his BMW Roadster in for a station wagon! What was I thinking? I should let the man have his toys......it's not like we have little ones anymore!

You get your van....there will be plenty of time for the convertible later on :-)

I thought I would hate it, but I actually love our mini van now.

First, I'm sure your hair looks adorable... I've been considering the chin-length bob myself, but I haven't gotten up the courage yet. Post a pic so we can see!

And I understand your feelings about the "mom car" thing. That's why I ended up with the Honda Pilot over the Honda Odyssey. But I have a friend who has the Town & Country and they love it. I'd be sold on the table idea too.

The one benefit to minivans, I'm told, is that you can actually lug around more stuff than an SUV, believe it or not. Like furniture -- it's easy to get it in and out.

The minivan thing makes remember a joke my daughter tells quite often: "What kind of car does Minnie Mouse drive?.... A Minnie-Van!" (you must imagine this punchline followed by lots and lots of 5-year-old laughter!)

Ha, I totally hear where you're coming from, but come on... the stowe & go seating, double dvd players... this car has got it goin' on. :)

Not to mention, a family member of mine is an engineer for Ford and designed their Windstar.

She drives this car... :)

Oh no, a mini van, but you know that does have incredible options, the seats alone make it a great vehicle. But don't fool yourself, you are picking a mom car. That's ok, your a mom and its a nice one, even my husband thinks its cool, and he hates vans, I find them really too hard to park , but if you've had a suburban than you'll be fine, Dodge and Chrysler make some really nice ones. I have the Caliber , I love it.

I have wanted to ask you something regarding your situation with the peanut allergy, I am starting a support group in my area, do you have one , have you been to one, what did they offer , if yes, and what would you look for from one. Thank you , You can email me personally. christiekauffman@hotmail.com
Is your child in school of any kind? I find that is the hardest part for, us , Today Sophie is home and skipping a field trip to a farm because her risk is high for exposure to nuts and peanuts there, so I am being cautious.
Take care,
CHris

No matter what you drive or how high your jeans are, I know you'll know how to rock it! Nobody's cooler than Bethy.

I think your choice of automobile depends on how long you will be driving it and the ages of your children. My kids thought it was cool to have a van in elementary school but when they hit middle school it was no longer cool. Right now I have a Suburban. I understand what you are saying about the size. It's hard to think of a regular car after having an SUV. Good luck.

We got a mini when our first was only 11 months old and we've never regretted it! Some people talk themselves out of it - but they don't know what they're missing! We have a V8 VW Touareg too (which is what I was going to recommend at the beginning of your post) for more sportier times.

If it makes you happy, then go for it! I used to say I would never buy one but I after riding in my sil's, I fell in love. I haven't bought one yet but I wouldn't rule it out either. Can't wait to see your haircut. I'm dying to cut mine all of a sudden but Sweet Hubby REALLY doesn't want me too.

I'm driving around in a champagne colored Toyota Avelon and feeling very much like I'm in the gramma mobile. I try to tell myself it's classy as I watch my son drive off in my Rav4 with the sun roof. Sigh...I can relate and I don't even have a table!

I have not been in one, but the Town and Country's are supposed to be really nice! They were giving them away on Regis and Kelly and I couldn't believe how kid oriented they are (DVD players, etc.). Enjoy!

we love our Toyota highlander hybrid. It even has a third row. Great for the environment, cute and sporty. Mine is in white. No teal. I don't know the 08 colors.

You are so funny, loved reading this post. We had a minivan for several years but now have a tahoe. I personally prefer the SUV to the minivan. We have four kiddos, so the space is a big concern of ours. Our tahoe can safely hold 9 passenger, but, I don't feel like I'm driving a big bus, LOL. Good luck choosing.

um....obviously as your first order of business on your next post you MUST post a pic of your do, maybe in front of your new car. sounds like this really is required of you now that you've shared your new hairdo news. minivan. i said the same thing. still don't have one, but i saw that one in particular as well...it's niiiiiice. you seem like the hybrid type to me...or something hummerish. hummers are so huge though. will they fit in a regular garage? let us know. if you do get the minivan i want details. gas mileage is supposedly better, which is a plus.

I can't wait to see pics of your new 'do - I have a chin length bob myself and love, love, love it - much better than long hair.

I also recently went to a sporty little BMW to a very mom-taxi-ish station wagon. So I am with you.

We have a mini-van - I, like you, didn't want one. My husband did, and he's the one that drives it, despite the fact that I drive a small Accord and do all the shopping, errands, kid-running, and all that, somehow he, who drives alone, needs the van.

I have to say though that the van we drive is much more comfortable and roomy than the SUVs I've ridden in. Easier to get in and out of as well.

Funny post! I think most of us with young kids can relate. I really don't think you need to worry about not being stylish...one look at your home tells me this! My husband really wants a minivan...I'm the one fighting that one! The Town & Country looks really nice though! Enjoy!

Don't let minivan stigma worry you. I actually checked this out, last week, online, after seeing a commercial. I blogged it here:
http://carolinadreamz.blogspot.com/2007/10/go-yellow-never-mentioned-dump-in-mpg.html

I still think, though, that I'd go for the "car comfort in a minivan" and stick with the Sienna.

Of course, I'm all for the 8 passenger.. in my dreamz, eh? We never need that many seats, but still.. *smile*

Good luck to you!

Hi...totally know where you are coming from. When we got our referral for our daughter..we had to go to a mini-van (Honda Odyssey). I did NOT want to be THAT Mom. But with 3 kids...I needed it. Now, I love it. Oh, and I have the chin length bob too!

You can still be stylish and sassy!

My husband and I were adamant about being anti-minivan for years. But... whenever we went out with friends, we'd go separately as families, when we drove 1,000 miles away to see my family it was so cramped in my Passat wagon, even SUV's were cramped...so now I drive a Honda Odyssey which I LOVE!!! And I defy anyone to call me "uncool"... I've never been happier...especially with my Navi because I don't get lost anymore!!! ;) And I'm the "bus" for a bunch of kids after school on our team days! Fun!

That's the car I want! The table got to me, too but we also rented one last year and loved it.

I'm in the process of growing my hair out from short short to a chin length bob. I'm now past the awful stage and I'm starting to love it. Post a pic!
