what i like about halloween
candy corn. sweet little costumes. happy jack o'lanterns. bite size chocolates. trick or treating. hayrides. the nip in the air. bobbing for apples. pumpkin patches. excited children.
what i don't like about halloween: all the scary stuff.
is it just me, or is it getting worse? it totally creeps me out.

We love Halloween too. We like the cutesy scary stuff. The realistic stuff in the stores scares my little one. He refuses to go back to the Halloween section and Party City? Forget about it - he won't even walk in front of the store.
No it's not just you. I don't like it either. My son (6 years old next week) had a nightmare JUST from seeing a scary mask at the grocery store. I can't stay away from it!
What I want to know is why costumes have gone, ummm, slutty? Like Naughty Pirate Girl, Sleazy Witch, a baby that looks like a porn star! And I agree, the world is scary enough without adding more terror.
I agree with you. I love white pumpkins and all the harvesty ,cozy, little kids dressed as bunnies parts of Halloween. No ghouls for me.
I don't like the way it seems to give adult women to dress up vampy......and I don't mean like a vampire. Why is almost every adult womens costume given the sexy look? Good grief.
I am so with you on that! We don't even have a choice, because it is so in your face. We can't drive down a street or walk in a store with out nightmare city! Can you say THREAPY people? For them and me .YIKES!
I love halloween! We've been decorating like crazy :)
Hi! I just found your blog and this post really struck me. I personally have my own theories on this, but yes, i agree - Halloween seems to be out of control. No longer a cute, simple celebration of fall with children in fun costumes , pumpkins, scarecrows, corn mazes and trick or treating. Sad, isn't it.?
You have a lovely blog too.
i feel the same way...i don't really love halloween but it has a sense of "fun" to me and i remember halloween always being so much fun from childhood and all the costumes...but all the sick death-related stuff is bad and the gorey (sp?) crap...i think it's just where our world is headed. now i'm rambling. but, point is, i'm with ya. blessings!
Precious! I hope that when I have children they are half as adorable as yours! :)
Yes, I am not a fan of the scary stuff either. Hope your semester is going well!

Hey Bethy, I can't find your email address so I'm just going to tell you here that we finally finished our kitchen. You can see it on my blog, it's not the top post, maybe one down.
Your kids are so darn adorable. My kids aren't allowed to dress as anything scary or evil ("what fellowship does light have with darkness?"). They're going as a Transformer and Indiana Jones. So cute. My mother would never let us be anything evil either. And the other day, my son asked why we don't decorate for halloween and I told him because i just don't like all that evil, dead, witchy stuff and he seemed relieved and said "me too, mama". It's just yucky.
Oh, here's something I didn't know... you are back to blogging! Yay. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one that wasn't invited and so glad you came back to us!
I could not agree more! It seems too get worse every year =(
Hi--found your blog from Southern Heart's....love it! And yes, I hate all the ghouly/garish/gruesome and tasteless stuff. Give me harvest and pumpkins and I'm good.
Stop by my blog sometime and say hi!
Suzanne
I agree with you, I like the harvest part of this time of year. The smell of the air, pumpkins (you can never have too many) and the colors.
When you go to the halloween section of the store it is kind of a dissapointmentthough. Everything is way too creepy.
My poor daughter never has much to choose from in the costume department. It is too cold to wear some of the things that are out there, plus she is only 8 and I would never let her wear some of that stuff anyway!
I'm with you. I love all the sweet, fun, innocent, and creative parts of this holiday. The rest of it is just not me.
