the news
i love being in my thirties because i am really beginning to figure myself out. i am getting more and more comfortable in my own skin and i don't live to impress anyone. you hear oprah say stuff like that a lot. how getting older is exciting because you become more of yourself (it would be even more exciting if i had her make-up team, but i really do see her point). i have finally put the pieces together and have learned what i love to do. the biggest problem has been figuring out how these things can coexist. in fact, it is documented here: http://homedaisy.blogspot.com/2006/06/sometimes.html.
well, tomorrow, i begin a new job. i will be teaching two design classes to middle and high school girls. i am so excited to be doing what i LOVE to do. this new venture is a gift and so is the friend who made it all possible. thank you!
i believe this is just a stepping stone to something bigger in our futures.
i will work only four hours a week, two days a week. i am excited to have yet another reason/excuse to shop at michaels, go antiquing, re-do a room or a piece of furniture, scrapbook a new technique, tour a home, play in my studio, or visit a blog for inspiration. all for the sake of research. i am also thrilled to have the title "design teacher." i think it gives me permission to dress a bit more eccentric. like those ballcaps and crocs i sport too often paired with my camo pants. i can just hear the principal under her breath, "well, that's the design teacher."
oh boy, i am so ready for this :) :)

That sound so exciting! Looking forward to hearing more about your classes!
Yea you! Is it at GA?
yes! ga :)
so true about what you said about getting older...funny thing is I remember hearing women say that when I was in my 20s and I didn't believe a word of it! I just thought they were trying to make themselves feel better about getting old! Now that I'm in my 40s I really understand it.
Those girls are so lucky to have you teaching them. I wish I could be a student in your class!
Awesome! Is there anything better than being creative? I don't think so! Good luck!
Congratulations on your new position!! I do the same thing here in PA and it is energizing to share creativity with others-- I think I get as much out of it as the students!! I don't think I felt "grown-up" until I turned 35. Now at 40, I just don't worry about things like I used to. It's like you get a license just to be YOU! The girls are going to just LOVE you!!!
HOw exciting! Congratulations! Now YOU can to school (clothes) shopping! ;)
WhoooHOOOOO! Congratulations, and I am sure you are going to be a huge blessing to those girlies. Since I am (ahem) a bit old for your class maybe you can keep the blog updated on all y'all's projects.
Congrats! I am thrilled for you! I wish I could take that class. :)
this is fabulous news! i've enjoyed learning from you via your site and i'm sure others will too. i wish you all the best in your 'next step'.
...I mean now you can go school shopping. :) (not TO SCHOOL SHOPPING)
Oh, I dream of clients who will expect me to show up in overalls or a mis-matched combo because I am that "cool ecentric creative designer who finds the best things at junk shops!" Oh, what bliss!! Congrats on your new gig- what fun!
Good luck- I love reading this blog and I love all your ideas. You will be great! I will be teaching first graders in a month!
Here's an apple for the new teacher... Enjoy!
You are going to be great! How lucky those girls are.

Way to go. I found your blog at the begining of summer and have been hanging around ever since. It really is pretty. You have a wonderful sense of style. Congrats on the job. It sounds like a dream! Did you take interior design classes? Wish I could sit in. I'm a little old though;) Good luck!!
oh...that sounds like a wonderful balance of family, "work" and creativity. can't wait to hear more about it...and hey, if you were in my livingroom now i'd ask you how this all came about...so, how 'bout it? take care.
I'm with you. Being in my thirties.. I'm really learning how to become MYSELF.
Congratulations! It sounds like a dream job. You'll do great!
thanks for rooting me on you sweet blog friends!
How exciting. Congratulations and I wish you the very best.
This is wonderful and exciting news!! I will look forward to reading about the challenges and rewards that you experience in the classroom. And, of course, about your eccentric outfits, too! :)
You are PERFECT for that job! The principal will LOVE you...crocs, ball cap and all. I'm so excited for your new adventure. What lucky young women to have you be a part of their lives. I'm sure you will impact them forever.
I wish my high school had offered that class! I did learn how to sew and cook from my home economics class. It is so important for girls to learn these things. Have fun!
Oh, I forgot ... I have been saying the same thing about being in my 30s. I'm liking it so much more than my 20s. It is a wonderful thing to finally figure things out a little more, and on a deeper level. Youth *is* wasted on the young. :-)
Terrific news! You are going to be a natural at your new post. It sounds like a perfect fit for you and for the school. Wonderful, homedaisy!!
Just thinking here, those girls are going to love you. I can imagine them rushing home after school and telling their parents "we love our new teacher!"
YAY! It sounds like a perfect job! Enjoy life on the outside! I've got 2 more years before both of my kids are in school! Please keep us posted. I need the scoop!!
How exciting!
What a lucky class...have a blast!
Hugs,
Sue
