because you said so
more on this later...
oh, sorry, here i am! i forgot i needed to finish this.
you all gave me some great advice on the countertops. you really know your stuff! thank you! from what you shared, i decided there is no perfect surface, is there? i realized i was making a mistake by getting too committed to keeping the current backsplash. i mean, if you are going to go to all the trouble to rip out your granite, why on earth would you keep a backsplash you don't love? so we decided to rip that out too. and after we did that, we saw that we could really choose any counter top we wanted (since we no longer had to try to match the existing backsplash.)
now we are putting in a beadboard backsplash (just like we did in our last home) and so for the counters...
the carrara marble. duh, of course! because, really, what screams farmhouse like carrara and beadboard? and if nothing is perfect, then why not get the imperfect that you LOVE? so you all talked me into it. and i appreciate it so much. because i feel so happy about it. and you all are so nice.
:)

...oh, the suspense...
(biting nails)
:o)
That will be gorrrrrrg-e-ous!
I am a sales rep for a large quartz counter top company. I love you blog but don't usually comment. I just wanted to let you know that I LOVE the carrara marble and dream of it often (even though I don't sell it.:)) Anyway, just keep in mind it is so soft and scratches so easily. Maybe someone already said this but I have not read all of the other comments. Anyway, I am not sure that would stop me from getting that look but if you have a lot of natural light in that room you will see the scratches. I just know that would bug me after a while. Not trying to rain on your parade just wanted to give my two cents! Have you looked at some of the honed granite/quartz products? They are gorgeous, also.
beautiful choice!!!
Great choice for the look you want. You might be interested in this blog post where they tested marble:

Yeh DUH! LOL I was wondering why you weren't picking the obvoius! CARRARA MARBLE - I just thought maybe you didn't want to repeat it in your house! I LOVE IT! That's what I want. Can't wait to see it.
YEA!!! I can't wait to see it! I was hoping you'd do marble! (I'm so living vicariously through you right now...hehe!)
That will look so pretty!
Wow, that's a great choice! I can't wait to see it! I LOVE the look of marble!
Bethy... How funny, I have that exact same meadowland dairy farms sign. LOVE it. Love your style.
Hi Bethy,
It was another Kimber who actually talked you out of dark counter tops. I have carrera marble on my island and I love it but I have honed black granite (it looks like soapstone) on other parts counters in my kitchen and I like it too. The carrera will etch whether it is honed or polished (especially is wine or OJ ever touched it). But i think of it as patina. However it bothers some people. We also have a white farmhouse sink. I have posted a photo of my kitchen in my blog. It is labeled under things I love (the oldest post).
One word of caution..those white sinks can chip a bit and ours is that poured something or another (shaw's) that isn't supposed to chip at all.
I love your taste!
kim
love your kitchen!!
