the house was built in 1855 and my grandmother has the original owner, abraham schell, hanging above the fireplace in the front parlor. he looks really nice, doesn't he?
This home is just so lovely! Your Grandmother is a wonderful decorator! You have that gift from her! And the memories will last forever. I can see your pride in your writings...
Abraham Schell as in Schellsburg, I assume. How fun that she has his picture! It's nice to put a face with a name, especially when you're talking about the person who first walked the rooms in your house.
Your grandmother's house looks so warm and inviting. I love both the outside and inside. The wreaths hanging on the windows and in the interior look very pretty. There are so many nice touches throughout. Hey, I think I would have liked to have taken that tour!
I just have to ask...now that we've seen this house, which grandmother is this? I remember the picture of the grandparent cottage with the candle burning in the window upstairs...that looked like it could have been on a tour, too.
Thanks for sharing all of this. Merry Christmas to you!
it is the same grandmother and the two houses are in the same town. she and my grandfather actually live in the log house with the candle(you have a good memory!). the schell house is down the road from them and they keep it for family gatherings and visits. she has five children in the dc area and lots of grandchildren, so she always has people coming to see her. i don't know if you could see her sign in the kitchen that says "mom's bed and breakfast." that is kind of what it is i guess!
What a beautiful home! I love a home with history! One of my friends built their home out of a beautiful old one room school house. They have a photo displayed of a group of the original students.
What a lovely home your grandparents have...thank you for sharing the pictures!
I also love a home with history. The home my family and I live in is part log and is over 175 years old (of course you can't tell that from the picture of it on my webpage).
